Citing Lost Girl as the Number 1 ranked program on Showcase across multiple key demos (including the Top 20 of all Canadian Specialty Programs for Fall 2013 and continuing to rank in the Top 20 of all Canadian Specialty Programs in Winter/Spring 2014), the series was renewed for a fifth season consisting of 13 episodes on February 27, 2014. With production starting in the spring, the premiere of Season 5 was scheduled for Fall 2014.[1][2]
Syfy (U.S.) did not issue a press release announcing the renewal for a fifth season; however, the finale episode of Season 4 on April 7, 2014, was followed by the "Lost Girl - Season 5 Tease" trailer informing viewers that Lost Girl would return in 2015.
On April 9, 2014, Showcase and Prodigy Pictures (in association with Shaw Media) announced that production had begun on 13 episodes, with filming in and around Toronto.[3][4]
On August 25, 2014, Showcase and Anna Silk announced that Season 5 would be the final season. The original 13-episode season was extended to 16 episodes and the season split into two parts consisting of eight episodes each: the first eight episodes (Part 1) beginning on December 7 and the final eight episodes (Part 2) following in Fall 2015.[5][6]
After four seasons, including the pilot for the series, Ksenia Solo reduced her role as Kenzi to pursue other roles and opportunities as a director.[7]
Guest stars for the fifth season included Amanda Walsh (as Zee), Luke Bilyk (as Mark), Noam Jenkins (as Heratio), Shanice Banton (as Iris), and Eric Roberts (as Hades).[8][9]
♦ Season 5 (Part 1) premiered on Sunday, December 7, 2014, at 9 p.m.
The premiere of the new season was not preceded by a Showcase Lost Girl special.
The mid-season (Part 1) finale episode, End of Faes, aired on January 25, 2015.[10]
On June 1, 2015, Lost Girl Series announced that the second half of the season would start airing on Showcase on September 6.[11]
♦ Season 5 (Part 2) premiered on Sunday, September 6, 2015, at 9 p.m.
Prior to the official broadcast premiere, Showcase released the first episode of Part 2 online on August 21, in a pre-linear promotion of anticipated Fall 2015 series. 44 Minutes to Save the World (5.09) was made available to watch for a limited time on its website and several other digital platforms.[12]
The sixteenth and final episode of the season and conclusion of the series aired on October 25, 2015.
The Showcase broadcast of the last episode of Lost Girl was accompanied by a live tweeting event featuring Anna Silk, Kris Holden-Ried, Luke Bilyk, Paul Amos, Rachel Skarsten, Rick Howland, and Zoie Palmer.[13]
In Australia, the distribution rights to Season 5 was not acquired by a television network (same as with Season 4). Part 1 premiered on Stan.com.au on February 28, 2015,[14] as content offered by the online streaming media subscription service; followed by Part 2 on September 7, 2015.[15]
In the United States, the season premiered on Syfy (U.S.) on April 17, 2015, at 10 p.m. EDT/PDT (with the broadcast day changed to Friday).[16] It was afterwards changed to Thursday at 10 p.m., effective as of May 21, 2015.[17] The mid-season finale episode on June 4 was followed by a preview announcing Lost Girl would return to Syfy in 2016. This announcement was confirmed on June 23, 2015, by Lost Girl Series.[18] Season 5 Part 2 premiered on February 1, 2016, at 10:00 p.m. (with its broadcast schedule returned to Monday; as Lost Girl was aired in its first four seasons).[19]
In the United Kingdom (UK and Ireland), Season 5 premiered on Syfy (UK) on October 13, 2015, at 9:00 p.m.[20][21][22]
In Season 5, the original Showcase traditional opening title sequence accompanied with voice-over monologue by Anna Silk and Lost Girl Theme Song was changed for opening credits superimposed over footage of the first scene. Order of credits: Anna Silk, Kris Holden-Ried, Zoie Palmer, Created by Michelle Lovretta, Lost Girl show title; followed by Rick Howland, Rachel Skarsten, supporting cast, guest actors. Ksenia Solo was included when she appeared in an episode.
Michael Grassi, who joined the creative team for Season 4 as Writer and Consulting Producer, became Showrunner and Executive Producer of Season 5.
Emily Andras moved into the position of Executive Consulting Producer for Season 5.
Prompted by a Twitter message from the Writers Guild of Canada asking their followers what Canadian show they would fight for, Canadian television media website TV, eh? featured a one-week online poll of the same question. Lost Girl won by 46% (out of 12,618 voters).[23]
The DVD of Season 5 was released first in the United Kingdom on January 25, 2016, by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment as "The Complete Final Season".[24] On February 11, 2016, the DVD was released in Australia by Universal Sony Pictures Home Entertainment as "The Complete Fifth Season".[25] The DVD and Blu-ray was released in Canada and the United States by Giant Ape Media on March 22, 2016, with the title "The Final Chapters – Seasons Five & Six" [26] (even though there was no "Season Six").
Because Season 5 was divided and broadcast as two parts by Showcase, some third-party television service providers incorrectly referred to the rerun of the second half (episodes 5.09 – 5.16) as "Season 6".

Story arc
In the upcoming final season, Bo, desperate to stop the Ancients, hell bent on using the Nyx to wipe out all of Human and Faekind, does the unthinkable: She beckons daddy dearest from the depths of the underworld. It takes evil to fight evil. But will the man Bo’s been waiting five seasons to meet turn out to be Dark Lord she’s expecting, or is there any hope in hell he might be the loving father she deserves? As the truth surfaces, each and everyone one of Bo’s friends are affected, and conflicting narratives force Bo to question everything she’s ever known about who she is, where she comes from, and who she can trust. Bo's final journey comes to a heart-racing conclusion when her worst nightmare becomes a reality, bringing her face to face with her greatest foe yet.

SHOWCASE ANNOUNCES THE EPIC FINAL SEASON OF LOST GIRL (Press Release)
August 25, 2014. Shaw Media
TORONTO, August 25, 2014 - Today, Showcase revealed that the previously announced fifth season of Lost Girl will wrap up the fan-favourite series. In a message to the show's loyal "Fae"-natics, Lost Girl star Anna Silk revealed that Showcase supersized the original 13-episode order to 16 final episodes bringing the series to a thrilling conclusion. The season is split into two heart-stopping parts, with the first eight episodes airing Sundays at 9pm ET/PT on Showcase, beginning December 7.
"The massive popularity of Lost Girl is a testament to the inventive and hard-working team at Prodigy Pictures, the magnetic and talented cast and the most devoted and passionate fan base in Canadian television," said Barbara Williams, Senior Vice President, Content, Shaw Media. "We're so proud that Showcase has been the home to this landmark series and we look forward to sharing these final 16 episodes with the show's fans."
"It's been an absolute honour playing Bo, and I'm looking forward to seeing where her personal journey leads her this season," said Lost Girl star Anna Silk.
"Lost Girl has been an incredible ride. We're so proud to have delivered a show with the groundbreaking message that you can live the life you choose," said Executive Producer Jay Firestone.
Lost Girl follows supernatural seductress Bo (Silk), a tough yet loveable Succubus who feeds off sexual energy. Since realizing she is part of the Fae, creatures of legend and folklore who live among humans, Bo has resisted choosing an allegiance to either the Dark or Light Fae clans. Instead, she has forged her own path between the human and Fae worlds, while embarking on a mission to unlock the secrets of her origin.
In the blow-out final season, Bo goes to hell and back to try to save the people she loves, triggering an explosive chain of events that play out over the exhilarating final episodes.
Lost Girl was developed by Prodigy Pictures, in association with Shaw Media and Showcase. Executive Producers are Jay Firestone, Vanessa Piazza and Michael Grassi.
Lost Girl is produced with the participation of the Canadian Media Fund created by the Government of Canada and the Canadian cable industry, and with the assistance of the Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit and the Ontario Film and Television Tax Credit Program.
