Mia Kirshner is a Canadian film and television actress.
Biography[]
Mia Kirshner was born in Toronto, Ontario on January 25, 1975. She is mix of Bulgarian from her mother, Polish from her father, and Jewish from both.
Mia's passion for acting awakens when she was a 12-year-old student at the Jarvis Institute. By the help of her parents, she managed to find a talent agent that led her to get an acting role in few Canadian television series.
Career[]
At the ripe age of 14, Mia successfully won a Genie nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a supporting role for her part in Love and Human Remains (1993) by Deny Arcand. With her brilliance, she was casted for Exotica (1994) film in which she played a stripper and won her critical acclaim. By 1996 she established herself with an equally inspiring performance in The Crow: City of Angels (1996).
Achieving a concrete ground in her acting career, she acted in multiple series and movies: 24 (2001) as Mandy; Not Another Teen Movie (2001) as Catherine Wyler; The Black Dahlia (2006) as Elizabeth Short; 30 Days of Night: Dark Days (2010) as Lilith; The Vampire Diaries (2009) as Isobel Fleming and Defiance (2013) as Kenya Rosewater.
She also had a quite prominent role in a lesbian series called The L Word, in which she played as Jenny Schecter for the whole 6 seasons. in this role she won multiple awards and amassed hundreds of fans world-wide that closely follow the arch of her story throughout the whole series.
Aside from being an incredible actress, Mia is also a writer and wrote the I Live Here, a paper documentary - an intimate journey to humanitarian crises in four corners of the world: war in Chechnya, ethnic cleansing in Burma, globalization in Mexico, and AIDS in Malawi.
