Cayden was Dyson's former Laignach Faelad pack mate in the group of shapeshifters, but he is no longer the old friend Dyson once knew. He became a freelance mercenary and used Dyson and Bo to obtain a dangerous Fae weapon, a Mongolian Death Worm, for his own profit.
He provokes Dyson into acknowledging that he (Dyson) has a new 'pack' of his own choosing, and is not the lone wolf his old pack mate appears to have become. He sought to compel love where it did not exist, and is pivotal in reuniting Ciara with Dyson after the passage of centuries.
