An Afreet is a subclass of the Djinn.
Afreet are malevolent, powerful beings possessing great wisdom. They love the spotlight, and usually stay within their own plains.
Afreets will only cooperate with someone if they are enslaved. As a type of Djinn they can be controlled in one of two ways: putting your mark on them with branding, scarring, or tattoos (but the mark must be personal and has to be charmed), or by trapping them in a Magic Lamp where they will do the bidding of the one who controls the lamp.
Different Afreets have different powers. Most can turn people into animals, some can turn themselves into fire-breathing dragons, or inanimate objects.
Sadie, an Afreet that fed off adoration, crossed plains back and forth for a millennia, causing a lot of mischief and grief while doing so. Her Fae ability was thrusting powerful fiery blasts from her hands.
- Sadie stated that Sophocles wrote the part of Jocasta in Oedipus Rex specifically for her, suggesting that she is Ancient.
- Ifrit (afreet) are supernatural creatures in Arab culture and Islam. The Ifrits are in a class of infernal Jinn noted for their strength and cunning. An ifrit is an enormous winged creature of fire, either male or female, who lives underground and frequents ruins. Ifrits live in a society structured along ancient Arab tribal lines, complete with kings, tribes and clans. They generally marry one another, but they can also marry humans. While ordinary weapons and forces have no power over them, they are susceptible to magic, which humans can use to kill them or to capture and enslave them. As with the jinn, an ifrit may be either a believer or an unbeliever, good or evil, but it is most often depicted as a wicked and ruthless being.
